Participation:

 

The maximum number of participants is 30-35.

In case we receive more applications than spots available, the following selection criteria will be applied:

- Applicants from the Utrecht Network will be prioritized for places (max 1-2 persons per member institution).
- Applicants with the most relevant background and interests for the programme

 

Aim:

 

The proposed Staff Training aims:

• To raise awareness as well as critically discuss and reflect on different facets of responsible internationalization, especially vis a vis the current geopolitical developments and relevant European policies/guidelines/initiatives

• To facilitate sharing of experiences and good practices with setting up and successfully implementing responsible internationalization policies and practices at departmental and institutional/university level,

• to critically discuss, reflect upon and promote core academic values (especially academic freedom, academic integrity and academic responsibility) in European and global perspective across the UN

• to establish a community of practice of informed, responsible and globally engaged scholars, science/research managers as well as university policy/strategy advisors and administrators across the Utrecht Network and beyond.

 

Target Group:

 

This training course is designed for academic and administrative staff involved in (responsible) internationalization and global engagement at departmental and/or institutional/university level, in particular:

Junior Faculty, especially those engaged in and/or responsible for (the management of) international academic and research collaborations (e.g. faculty internationalization officers, international research/science managers), academic freedom ombudsperson, and/or who are involved in hosting/supporting at risk scholars

University Administration, senior policy/strategy advisors for internationalization/global engagement; heads of international relations/global engagement offices, international relations managers, administrators involved in supporting/hosting at risk scholars,

At Risk Scholars (formerly) hosted at/supported by UN member institution and beyond as regional/case experts and as speakers on individual experience as engaged/threatened scholars

 

Themes/Programmes: 

 

The detailed programme will be announced in due time. In a nutshell it will include:

Main topics – Workshops

• Presentation/mapping of Task Force RIGE activities & events and at UN member institutions

• How to implement the right to academic freedom and academic responsibility on campus and in internationalization of higher education

• How to successfully support researchers at risk before, during, after and beyond hosting

• How to comply with human rights and EU/ national research security regulations (e.g. dual use, export control) when engaging in international cooperations and partnerships with partners from “challenging contexts” while
avoiding undue restrictions/encroachments on academic freedom.

The training design will be a comprehensive one, constituting of plenary sessions and group sessions.

Application Process & Fee:

 

The staff training is organized with the support of the Utrecht Network.

It is without fees and includes lunches and coffee breaks.

Participants are expected to cover their costs of travel, accommodation and dinners by themselves and to make necessary travel arrangements and reservations.

 

 Accommodation:

 

 The accommodation cost will be covered by the participants, however, the organizers can suggest a variety of possible convenient solutions, taking into consideration the location, the service quality and the price range of the lodgings. Further details will be mailed to the participants, after the confirmation of the mobility.
