The institutions named below agree to cooperate for the exchange of students and/or staff in the context of the Erasmus+ programme. They commit to respect the quality requirements of the Erasmus Charter for Higher Education in all aspects related to the organisation and management of the mobility, in particular the recognition of the credits awarded to students by the partner institution.

D. Additional requirements

1. Aristotle University of Thessaloniki:

Courses at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki are normally taught in Greek. However, there are courses in other languages too, especially at the Foreign Language Faculties, Faculty of Law (courses in English, French and German language), School of Journalism & Mass Communication, and School of Economics. In all other cases, there are special arrangements for LLP/Erasmus students, such as assignment of essays in English with the use of English bibliography in small groups of students.

Greek Language courses for Erasmus+ students

There are courses organized specifically for Erasmus+ students with the support of the EU at the beginning of each semester: in October and in March (beginners’ level). Moreover there are on-line courses at the beginning of each semester.

Students with disabilities

Social and Health Policy Committee of AUTH was established in 1997 with the aim to facilitate students with disabilities. Services have been developed and updated according to European and International standards. There are several fields that Social and Health Policy Committee is getting involved, always aiming to make student life easier so that all students can focus on their academic demands.

Services available

Students with visual impairment

- Converting books or notes in any file the student is using to study (text to speech, print them in Braille etc)

Students with hearing disabilities

- Interpretation in Greek Sign language everywhere in the campus of our University during working hours.

- Co-operation with Hellenic Federation of the Deaf in order to provide sign language interpreters for all lessons of deaf students.

- Unfortunately we do not provide interpretations in other foreign sign languages.

Students with mobility disabilities

- We provide transportation to students with mobility disabilities from their residences to the campus and vice versa in an everyday basis.

- connect students with other institutions so that they will be given the professional care they need depending on their issue.

2. Freie Universität Berlin
  • At the time of the conclusion of this agreement, the study programme at the Law Department at Freie Universitat Berlin does not follow the Bologna structure (1st cycle LL.B/ 2nd cycle LL.M).  Law studies at Freie Universitat Berlin take 4 years and end with a state exam after 5 years.  Incoming Bachelor students and Incoming Master students will be enrolled in the undergraduate program and will be allowed to take courses from the 1st to the 4th year of legal studies.
  • PhD students need to send a Master certificate to the Student Exchange Office in order to get enrolled. PhD students will only receive ECTS-credits if they complete courses at the host institution.  Therefore, the will not receive any ECTS-credits from the host institution for PhD-related research they undertake. The home institution is responsible for accrediting PhD students with ECTS-credits for research completed at the host institution.
  • It is not possible for incoming exchange students to turn in their final BA-/LL.B.-/MA-/LL.M.-/PhD-thesis at the host institution. Final thesis need to be graded by the home institution.
  • Family-friendly organisation of studies: To enhance compatibility between academic careers and family life, Freie Universitat Berlin strives to ensure a family-friendly higher education environment. The University has already taken a number of actions to ensure that academic activities are organised to be friendly toward families, including preferential registration for seminars.   • Freie Universitat Berlin offers councseling for students with disabilities and chronic diseases. We assist with finding suitable accommodation (wheelchair users are advises to apply for accommodation as early as possible), we provide information about public transport, access to health care, and about financial support in case of additional disability expenditure on the part of the student.  The Office for Students with Special Needs moreover gives information concerning the accessibility of university buildings and helps to move a class to another room, if needed. Accommodated study and exam conditions, e.g. additional study papers for blind and visually impaired students, or extra time to use technical devices during exams can also be arranged. 3. A Transcript of Records will be issued by the receiving institution no later than 5 weeks after the assessment period has finished at the receiving HEI.

The receiving institution will send its decision within 6 weeks.

A Transcript of Records will be issued by the receiving institution no later than 5 weeks after the end of the exchange period given that the transcript form and all relevant course work have been submitted by the student.


4. Termination of the agreement

In the event of unilateral termination, a notice of at least one academic year should be given. This means that a unilateral decision to discontinue the exchanges notified to the other party by 1 September 20XX will only take effect as of 1 September 20XX+1. The termination clauses must include the following disclaimer: "Neither the European Commission nor the National Agencies can be held responsible in case of a conflict."

Freie Universität Berlin

ECTS Credits: The Freie Universität Berlin uses the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) which is a workload-based system for measuring and comparing study results. The student is awarded a certain number of ECTS credits for each course which reflects the workload necessary to successfully complete a course.
Credits are awarded only when the student has fulfilled the course requirements, for example regular attendance. The credits are allocated by the individual departments in accordance with the standard workload determined by the respective study and examination regulations whereby one credit equals 30 hours of study.
Please note that the Student Exchange Office refrains from prescribing a standard workload per semester.
