D. Additional requirements

1. Aristotle University of Thessaloniki:

Courses at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki are normally taught in Greek. However, there are courses in other languages too, especially at the Foreign Language Faculties, Faculty of Law (courses in English, French and German language), School of Journalism & Mass Communications, School of Economics and School of Political Sciences. In all other cases, there are special arrangements for Erasmus+ students, such as assignment of essays in English with the use of English bibliography in small groups of students.

Information concerning courses and other academic matters can be obtained at the website of the University: http://www.auth.gr/en/faculties

Greek Language courses for Erasmus+ students

There are regular and online Greek language courses, which start at the beginning of each semester. These courses are organized specifically for Erasmus+ students with the support of the EU and are offered free of charge under certain conditions in regard to absences. You can find more information at the School of Modern Greek Language of AUTH: http://smg.web.auth.gr/wordpress/?lang=en

Students with disabilities

Social and Health Policy Committee of AUTH was established in 1997 with the aim to facilitate students with disabilities. Services have been developed and updated according to European and International standards. There are several fields that Social and Health Policy Committee is getting involved, always aiming to make student life easier so that all students can focus on their academic demands.

Services available

Students with visual impairment

- Converting books or notes in any file the student is using to study (text to speech, print them in Braille etc)

Students with hearing disabilities

- Interpretation in Greek Sign language everywhere in the campus of our University during working hours.

- Co-operation with Hellenic Federation of the Deaf in order to provide sign language interpreters for all lessons of deaf students.

- Unfortunately we do not provide interpretations in other foreign sign languages.

Students with mobility disabilities

- We provide transportation to students with mobility disabilities from their residences to the campus and vice versa in an everyday basis.

Services to all students

- blood donation days

- connect students with other institutions so that they will be given the professional care they need depending on their issue.

Social and Health Policy Committee is always personalizing its services adjusting them to the needs and wills of every single student.

2. The University of Manchester

All Erasmus students must be nominated by their home university.  Once nominated they should apply online via the link on the following page: http://www.manchester.ac.uk/international/studyabroadandexchanges/erasmus/apply/

Students must be a current undergraduate of a university or college of higher education and be in good standing at that institution.

We normally require at least a B average. This average should be maintained during the period of study immediately preceding the semester or year to be spent at The University of Manchester.

English Language UK Border Agency (UKBA) immigration requirements

As most Erasmus students are EU nationals, they are able to enter the UK for study without a visa, and must therefore simply have a level of English in line with our requirements above.

A non-EU national applying to study at Manchester for a full academic year under the Erasmus programme whose first language is not English will need to provide a Secure English Language Test (SELT) certificate to show that they  meet both The University of Manchester's and UKBA's minimum English language requirements.

Disability Support

Support is available to students and staff with any kind of disability, whether this be a physical or sensory impairment, medical condition, learning difficulty, mental health need, or any other condition which has a long-term adverse effect on study or work. The University's Disability Support Office is available to assist with any support needs.

F. Information

1. Grading systems of the institutions

Aristotle University of Thessaloniki:

A scale of 1 to 10 applies to the marks of each subject in the Hellenic Higher Education

8,5-10

Άριστα (Arista) - Excellent

6,5-8,49

Λίαν Καλώς (Lian Kalos) – Very Good

5,00-6,49

Καλώς ( Kalos) - Good

0-4,99

Ανεπιτυχώς ( Anepitychos) - Fail

The University of Manchester
  • Credit equivalence

The majority of course units at The University of Manchester are worth either 10 or 20 credits. As a general rule, one UK credit equates to 10 hours of work; a 10-credit course unit therefore requires 100 hours of study on average.

Students should note that the number of credits associated with a course does not relate to the number of contact hours (lectures, tutorials etc) per week as is the case in some education systems. The number of formal contact hours varies considerably between subjects. Course units within engineering and the sciences will normally have many more contact hours than course units in humanities, but the latter usually require the student to invest more time in library study.

As a guide for EU students:

  • 10 Manchester credits = 5 ECTS credits
  • 20 Manchester credits = 10 ECTS credits

  • The University of Manchester grading scale is as follows:

 Percentage mark

 Class of degree

 % of successful students

 70-100%

 First (I)

 15

 60-69%

 Upper second (II.i)

 35

 50-59%

 Lower second (II.ii)

 35

 40-49%

 Third (III)

 15

 35-39%

 Marginal fail

 0

 0-35%

 Fail
