Accommodation Tips

Printer-friendly version

The University Dormitories are not available to Erasmus students, however, in order to facilitate the students to find accommodation, the Department of European Educational Programmes has created the following Accommodation Guide:

Renting an apartment is the most common choice for Erasmus students. In Thessaloniki, students can find a variety of options, from small studios to larger shared apartments. Prices vary based on location, size, and amenities, with city-center apartments being more expensive than those in suburban areas. Many students choose to share apartments to split costs, making this option more affordable.

Students can search for accommodation on their own through various real estate agencies in Thessaloniki, through accommodation websites with trusted reviews οr contact former students of their Home University.

Important: As Europe’s Housing crisis continues to grow, several students in Europe have been scammed through fake housing advertisements or websites. Please be very cautious towards any advertisement that may look suspicious and require unusual transactions and ensure the quality of the offered services of rented apartments (sometimes even their existence) before booking and definitely before depositing any money in advance.

•    Be careful with the housing advertisements. Avoid ads that do not include any photos of the property and be aware of ads with photos that look too perfect; double check using Google search if the property exists in the indicated place.

•    Make sure that the owner’s info and contact details are clearly displayed (first name, surname, telephone number and not just an email address).

•    Be very suspicious with ads from owners whose bank accounts are not Greek (IBAN number should begin with letters GR).

•    Make sure you read carefully all the terms and conditions of the written contact before signing it. It is highly discouraged to hand over cash before signing your rental contract and before viewing the flat and getting the keys.

•    Check if the property you are interested in is not listed on Airbnb platform and pay attention to the new ‘’Airbnb’’ scam where scammers rent a property via Airbnb and then list it on local web sites as if they owned it.
